FOSS.IN day 3

Another awesome day here in Bangalore at India’s premier free and open source conference, FOSS.IN/2005.

Gave my “Inside | Outside” keynote this morning. The audience cheered when I slammed the GNU/ travesty. (Yes, cheered. I love this place). Best feedback of all was when Sulamita Garcia from Brazil said “you said what we’ve been trying to say for years, but couldn’t find the words”. I’ve got nothing on her, though — yesterday she gave her first ever presentation in English.

This afternoon went to two really interesting talks in the ballroom. One was a really sensible talk by Sriram Bala entitled “CTO tales: Evangelizing Open Source to the Fortune 500“, full of lessons about how to present FOSS effectively to a business audience. That was followed by Danese Cooper doing lightning talks as a way of teaching people “How to give a FOSS presentation“. Danese is a fantastic speaker and it’s a privilege to have someone of her calibre offering suggestions on how to improve one’s public speaking.

Always something to learn.
